Information we collect

We collect two kinds of information.

Information you give us. If you subscribe to the newsletter we store the email address you provide. If you contact us we store your name, email address and the content of your message so we can reply. We do not ask for any other personal information.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers and service providers record technical data about each visit: IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed and the time of the visit. This is used for security, diagnostics and aggregate audience measurement.

Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device. We and our partners use them for the following purposes:

Strictly necessary. Remembering your light/dark theme preference. This is stored in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device.
Analytics. Understanding which articles are read, in aggregate, so we know what to write more of.
Advertising. Serving and measuring ads, including limiting how often you see the same ad.

If you subscribe, we use your email address only to send the newsletter. Every email contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address from our list. We do not sell, rent or share subscriber lists.

Data retention

Contact form messages are kept for up to 24 months. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are retained for a short period for security and diagnostic purposes. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited personal data we hold, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
